"Thumbnails" are very small representations of an image used in this Help file because they load faster than the "real" larger image. To view the larger image, simply click on the thumbnail image. To return to the Help file from a larger image, use the BACK button of your browser. This is an example of a thumbnail image:

Browsers & Cookies

Ulrichsweb.com was designed to be compatible with web browsers that are 4.0 and above. Please note that ulrichsweb.com does require cookies to serve you effectively.

The Importance of Logging Out

It's important for users to use the LOGOUT icon on the top navigation bar when they have completed their current ulrichsweb.com session. If a user does not logout, the system will think that user is still logged on and will keep the connection active until it times out.

The default time-out is 10 minutes. However, your license administrator can adjust the time-out for your account in the My ACCOUNT area of ulrichsweb.com to 20, 30, or 40 minutes. License administrators can also customize where the system returns at logout. You can choose to logout to the ulrichsweb.com home page or to any other URL.

Monitor Settings

Ulrichsweb.com looks best when viewed on a monitor set at at least 16-bit High Color. For Windows 95 and 98 users, you can change monitor color settings in the following way:

  1. Click your Start button.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Choose Control Panel.
  4. Double click the Display icon.
  5. Click the Settings tab.
  6. Under colors, choose True Color (16-bit) or higher (e.g., True Color 24-but or True Color 32-bit).

Don't want to use your mouse?

If you don't feel like using your mouse, you can frequently move around an ulrichsweb.com screen by using your tab key to go forward or shift + tab to go backwards. Plus, by tabbing forward or backward to an action button (such as the SEARCH on the Advanced Search screen), you can often hit your Enter or Return key rather than clicking the button with your mouse (Netscape and Internet Explorer users will find some differences in their ability to use the Enter/Return key in place of their mouse).
